He explained how liberty is achieve in present society. He composed capitalism and socialism, the two opposing economic system. In his view, free market capitalism is related to individual freedom, and collectivism is tied with socialism.
He used a very brilliant method in his investigation, which is encouraging the readers to see the same phenomenon in different view, it made people easier to understand and see the difference very clearly. This novel is consequence of political maneuver, such as development of power of bureaucratic state, and legislation coined at the special interests.
Some people think government interference is to make sure transparency of information, but Hayek thinks government is not that honest as well. When they make laws, they discriminate the subgroups and classes within the population, it is going against individual morality which should be the foundation of a country.
THE ROAD TO SERFDOM
Hayek, in his life, opposed socialism, and predicted that socialism is not the right idea for economy and for people. His prediction was right, almost all socialist countries have self-destructed at the end of World War II. In this book, he explained how and why this happened. His book represents the culmination of a century of dissecting collectivism, totalitarianism, and especially socialism. He investigates the merits and appeals of collectivism verses individualism at the beginning of his book. Also, he contends that government control of people’s activities leads to serfdom. In his idea, only individual action and voluntary coordination lead to freedom of people. People want freedom, and if they are not given freedom, they will eventually revolt. This can be seen in the fall of Soviet Union, and French Revolution.
